Villanova alum Lyam MacKinnon signs for 2023 season
Greenville, SC (March 9, 2023) – The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club has added three-time All-Big East forward Lyam MacKinnon, pending league and federation approval. MacKinnon, a Villanova alum, was drafted by Nashville SC in the third round of the 2023 MLS SuperDraft.
A talented forward, MacKinnon tallied 17 goals and 14 assists across a 56-game career at Villanova, leading the team in scoring his junior and senior seasons. He was selected to three All-Big East teams and the 2021 All-East Region third team. In 2021, he also led the Wildcats to the school’s first-ever NCAA Tournament victory, scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 at Vermont.
The Lausanne, Switzerland native came to Villanova after captaining the Lausanne Sport U-18 and FC Lausanne U-21 youth teams.
“Lyam is a quality attacking young player, said Head Coach John Harkes. “As a first year pro player, we are already seeing his ability in one on one situations. He has a positive approach to the game, and a great enthusiasm at a very high level. We are excited that he will be stepping on the field for our club.”
MacKinnon joins as the 20th player on Greenville’s 2023 roster and was featured in the Charlotte Independence, Anderson University and Atlanta United 2 preseason friendlies. MacKinnon is the newest member of the squad being added less than a month before Greenville open’s its season on March 25th.
