Triumph add two to roster just before the April 2, Home Opener
The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club has announced the signing of former Anderson University forward, Alex Cox-Ashwood and former LA Galaxy 2 defender, Nate Shultz, pending league and federation approval. Both players featured on trial this preseason for the Triumph.
Cox-Ashwood joins the Triumph on his first professional contract after completing his senior season at Anderson in December 2021. As a Trojan, he started 36 of his 44 matches played, tallying nine assists and 19 goals. Thirteen of his goals came during his senior season, where he tied for the second-most in the conference. The forward also earned SAC Offensive Player of the Week and United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week in September, as well as first team All-SAC, D2CCA All-Region, USC Southeast Region and USC scholar All-Region. Before arriving in Anderson, the Wittenheim, France native appeared in 12 matches across two seasons for Lander University in Greenwood, SC.
Joining late in the preseason on trial after training with Indy Eleven, Nate Shultz was signed in the lead-up to Triumph SC’s home opener. The defender was drafted 48th in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft by the LA Galaxy, and signed with LA Galaxy 2 following the draft. While at LA Galaxy 2, Shultz started 53 out of 57 total matches played and totaled 4,810 minutes between his 2018-2019 seasons. Prior to his professional debut, he had 10 appearances for the Portland Timbers U23 squad in League Two. The Ohio native played collegiately at the University of Akron from 2014-2017. Shultz appeared in 83 matches and was named to the USC Second Team All-Great Lake Region and Second Team All-Mid American Conference during his final season.
Cox-Ashwood and Shultz will join Jamie Smith is the second and third trialists to be signed to the 2022 roster. The Triumph will kick off its Home Opener against Fuego FC this Saturday, April 2nd at Legacy Early College in West Greenville.
