WHAT TO WATCH FOR
The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club will take the field at 8:00 PM EST tomorrow evening in Werner Park. The Triumph will spend its first match of the rivalry series at Union Omaha before hosting the Nebraska team twice later this season.
Seventy-two hours ago, Greenville fell at home to expansion side, One Knox SC, 2-1. An early goal from Leonardo Castro couldn’t push Greenville over the top, as Knoxville responded with two goals to tie and take the lead. The loss dropped Greenville to seventh in league standings with a 3-5-1 record. Without much recovery time, GTSC has to quickly refocus and pivot its attention to the next match in a challenging road environment.
Fatigue and depth might play a role in Wednesday’s matchup for the Triumph. Looking at the same availability as last match, Greenville made the careful effort to limit playing time for high-minute players, like Brandon Fricke and Evan Lee against Knoxville. Aaron Walker remains doubtful for this match, along with as Jamie Smith and Noah Franke. All-League midfielder, Devin Boyce will return to face his former League One club this week for the first time since joining Greenville.
Union Omaha will also be facing a tough turnaround for this midweek match, following a grueling 3-3 draw against the Chattanooga Red Wolves on Saturday. Omaha now has a 2-1-4 record on the year and sits ninth in standings, but the side has only conceded eight goals. Although not a high-scoring team the Owls defense has carried them to six matches with less than two goals against. They have tallied wins against both west coast sides, Central Valley Fuego and Northern Colorado.
